A group of Diaspora teachers from the US who participated in the Diaspora Teacher Training Programme organised by the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute have visited the University of Cyprus, a press release issued on Monday by the University says
The meeting took place last week and the teachers exchanged views with the University Rector , Professor Constantinos Christofides, the Vice Rector for International Relations, Finance and Administration, Costas Constantinou and Head of Research and International Relations Service, Dr. Grigoris Makridis
The Rector said that the University is particularly proud that has a community of 7,000 students and professors who have studied in 23 different countries and worked in over 50 different countries. He pointed out that in the 1990`s the University attracted a lot of repatriates and expressed the hope to be able to bring back the best once again.
Christofides referred to the significance of the new bill passed by the House that allows the University to offer courses in languages other than the official languages of the Republic
On behalf of the Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Ioannis Efthimiopoulos expressed his gratitude for the fact that the University has developed the Diaspora programme.
Head of the Pedagogical Institute Athina Michaelidou said that Ministry of Education and the Institute in particular, invest a lot in teaching Greek as a second language for the Diaspora.
