The Development Fund for the north of Kosovo, established in 2013, has gathered so far over 11 million euros.
These funds which have been secured by collecting taxes in the border crossing points dividing Kosovo and Serbia, will be used for investments in four communes inhabited by Serbs in the north of Kosovo.
Minister of Finance, Avdullah Hoti says that this fund is managed by a board which is chaired by the special representative of the European Union, the representative of the Ministry of Finance and representatives of northern communes.
He says that this fund has improved the quality of life for citizens in that part of the country and has had a positive impact in their integration in the institutions of Kosovo.
“There have been projects in infrastructure, local streets, water supply systems, etc. As minister of Finance, I can assure you that only those projects which are in line with the criteria set out in the agreement shall be approved”, he said.
Since the start of the implementation of this agreement, customs officials have discovered around 70 violations and have penalized businesses or particular individuals who have violated customs procedures. /balkaneu.com/
