The deputy speaker of the National Assembly of Serbia, Gordana Comic, visits Albania, in the framework of the participation in the Work Group of the Southeast Europe Cooperation Process (SEECP) Parliamentary Assembly. This meeting was held this weekend in Tirana.
Mrs. Comic was received in an official meeting by the speaker of the Albanian parliament, Mr. Ilir Meta. Mr. Meta said that he wished to reconfirm the will of Tirana to strengthen inter-parliamentary relations between Albania and Serbia through mutual groups of friendship and parliamentary committees.
In the meeting, Meta and Comic shared their joint conviction that constructive cooperation between Albania and Serbia is necessary for the stability and prosperity of our region.
In this framework, the visit of the Albanian PM, Edi Rama, to Serbia was seen as a positive contribution for the joint European perspective of the two countries.
Meta’s meeting with the senior Serb official comes a few weeks after relations between the two countries were aggravated due to the violent incidents taken place in October in Belgrade during the match between Serbia and Albania, in the framework of the Euro 2016 qualifiers.
The governments of the two countries exchanged retorts and strong accusations in relation to the incidents, by accusing each other of nationalism. A few days ago, two Albanian ministers went to Belgrade in an attempt to prepare the ground for Mr. Rama’s visit, which was postponed for November 10 following a telephone conversation with his Serb counterpart. /ibna/
