US Department of State (DoS) has issued its evaluation on the presidential and parliamentary elections held on Sunday in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
“Elections in Macedonia were held in a professional way with several technical irregularities”, declared Jen Psaki, spokeswoman of the US Department of State, the declaration of whom has been released by the US embassy to Skopje.
She said that the general assessment on the elections is in line with the OSCE/ODIHR report.
“I would like to congratulate the citizens of Macedonia on exerting their right of vote in the presidential and parliamentary elections. I would like to reiterate the initial evaluation of OSCE, according to which, the elections were held with professionalism, with some technical irregularities. We continue to follow the electoral process phases, including the eventual post electoral complaints. Nevertheless, we encourage those who will form the government to tackle the inequalities noticed in the electoral process, which have been stressed by OSCE”, declared Psaki.
The US Department of State positioning comes a day after the joint declaration of the US and EU embassies in relation to the electoral process. /ibna/
