A demonstrations was held today in front of the Athens Court of Appeals, which is to decide (until next Monday) about extraditing or not 5 students and workers accused to be involved in violent actions in a demonstration in Milan, Italy, last May. Italian authorities asked for their extradition with a European arrest warrant. The charges against them, in case they are put on trial in Greece and if they are found guilty, would result in lighter sentences then in Italy, where the same offences are punished with serious jail time.
In support of the 5 men there are also work stoppages at the municipality of Agia Paraskevi, the area where the defendants reside. Also the Greek Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) called for a rally because the demonstration in which the 5 men participated in Italy was for the celebration of the International Workers’ Day on 1 May.
