The Executive Secretariat and the Political Council of the New Democracy unanimously decided the election of the new President of the party to take place in the spring of 2016.
Indeed, it was decided to follow the statutory procedure that provides election from the people, as it had been the case in November 2009.
According to the statuette, the right to vote will have registered party members even if they have registered just before the procedure.
The party’s Political Committee will meet on Friday to ratify the decision.
Sources in ND noted that “historically the ND is dedicated to serving the national interest. This time the key is to ensure the country’s European course. This is a national objective that our party ensures for the country and all the Greek people.
In this context, unanimously, the informal Political Council and the Executive Secretariat expressed their full confidence in the face of the president of the New Democracy Vangelis Meimarakis and decided to recommend the election a new president until the spring of 2016, under the statute taking into account the political, social and economic situation of the country.
Finally, it was decided to carry out the rest of the pre-conference meetings and the final national conference in the near future”.
