Debates in the parliament of FYROM, Xhaferi proposed for speaker of Parliament

The Macedonian Social Democratic Union (SDSM) has proposed the BDI’s MP, Talat Xhaferi for the post of the speaker of Parliament of FYROM. The social democrat MP, Petre Silegov said that 20 signatures have been collected to propose Xhaferi for this post.

“As a parliamentary majority, we have a duty not to allow any more delays in the work of parliament. During these days, we will exploit any legal possibility to unblock work in parliament”, Silegov said.

But, VMRO-DPMNE declared that SDSM’s attempt to introduce the election of the speaker of Parliament in the agenda is a breach of the regulation of parliament. According to VMRO-DPMNE, the members of the Parliamentary Commission for Nominations must be elected first and then the speaker.

The election of the speaker of Parliament requires 61 votes out of a 120 seat parliament. Majority parties led by SDSM have 62 seats. But one of the Albanian parties, Besa Movement, which offered its support to the social democrat leader, Zoran Zaev for the creation of the government, said that it doesn’t back BDI’s candidate, Talat Xhaferi for the post of the speaker.

According to this party, Xhaferi has been part of the governing cabinet of Nikola Gruevski.

“Talat Xhaferi’s candidact has been imposed upon us and we will not accept it. Former minister of Nikola Gruevski, with criminal records, cannot carry out reforms”, declared Afrim Gashi of Besa Movement.

This party had warned that it had its own candidate for the post of the speaker of Parliament, but it hasn’t issued any details as to whether it will propose him.

Today, parliament will continue to debate the election of the members of the Parliamentary Committee for Nominations. SDSM and Albanian parties have accused Gruevski’s party of blocking the work of parliament.

Meanwhile, VMRO-DPMNE will demand fresh general elections, which according to this party, must be held along with local government elections. /balkaneu.com/
