Expert for European issues, Florian Bieber declared today in Skopje that the European Union is not only part of the solution, but also part of the problem with the crisis in FYR Macedonia.
Bieber, who is director of Studies for Southeast University in the Austrian University of Graz, stressed this in a debate for European integrations taking place in Skopje.
“Crisis in Macedonia is only a reflection of the crisis in the EU. The Union has a problem with the legitimacy in Macedonia and is not a constructive partner. The EU is not only part of the solution, but also part of the problem. The crisis has been caused by the fact that the EU is not interested to have enlargement”, declared Bieber.
Bieber says that Greece’s decision to block the start of negotiations with the EU in 2009 and NATO accession a year prior, was a strategic mistake, while the consequences are being felt six years later.
Deputy PM for EU integration, Fatmir Besimi launched an appeal for political parties today in Brussels to commit in order to offer dialogue, because dialogue is a very important thing for the country.
“It all depends on us in order to show that we have the capacity to preserve the recommendation and start with official talks. It’s very important for Macedonia to show that it has the capacity to solve the crisis”, Besimi said.
This debate was organized by the Institute for European Policies, dubbed “EU and current political crisis in Macedonia”. /ibna/
