Today’s a day of mourning in FYR Macedonia to honor the four officers of border police who lost their life last Thursday when a military helicopter fell near Strumica.
This tragedy claimed the life of Dragi Micev, Marijan Trajkovic, Tode Oreskov and Ilo Lopaticki, who were career pilots and officers at the Interior Ministry.
A commemorative ceremony was held last night in Skopje where the family members and state leaders bid their farewell to the four pilots, who were declared as ‘national heroes’ by the Interior Ministry.
“Our country lost great patriots and distinctive professionals. Their memory will never die and it will be a guideline for future generations”, declared Minister of Interior, Gordana Jankulovska.
The helicopter fell on Thursday around 10 pm and eye witnesses said that the helicopter lost control and crashed with a state radio television network antenna, which was 120 meters long. A high government commission has started to investigate on this tragedy, while the producer and maintenance operator of “MI-17” helicopter said that the helicopter was good technical condition and that the last inspection was made on May 17. /ibna/
