Director General for Enlargement at the European Commission, Christian Danielson has said that there’s still a lot of work to do for the holding of fair and democratic elections in FYROM.

As of yesterday, Danielson is staying in Skopje to talk to political sides and civil society in relation to the political situation.

Danielson said that an agreement should be reached and the legal package for the reform in the media must be voted, while the adjustment of the voters’ lists is a key factor.

“I call on all political parties and state institutions to work together in order to hold credible elections”, Danielson said.

The senior European official condemned the attacks against Special Prosecution.

“The European Commission insists that political dialogue and reforms, especially in the rule of law, must be implemented before the elections and after them. The European Commission is willing to help the country get back to the EU integration path”, Danielson said.

The EU official is visiting Skopje at a time when parliament is expected to be dissolved tomorrow, based on the political agreement that was reached last year and in order to prepare for the 5 June elections. /ibna/
