The Statistical Office announced that all preparations have been completed and the 2021 Census of Population and Housing will start on Friday, 1 October 2021.
The purpose of the census is to provide complete and accurate geographical coverage of the dwellings, institutions and persons, both Cypriot and foreign nationals, who have their habitual residence in state-controlled areas.
The data will be collected by trained census enumerators who will enter the information in an electronic questionnaire. The census enumerators will wear distinctive clothing and carry a badge with a special ID badge issued by the Service, certifying that they have been authorised to collect the data. Data collection may be carried out by personal or telephone interviews, or even by the completion of a paper questionnaire by the census takers themselves.
During data collection, all appropriate measures against the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) will be observed. In addition, a health protocol which has been specifically prepared by the Ministry of Health for the Population Census will be implemented.
It is emphasized that the Statistical Office has the obligation to ensure the observance of statistical confidentiality, as defined in the Official Statistics Law of 2021 (Law 25(I)/2021) and the protection of personal data in accordance with the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).
The Statistical Office warmly appeals to the public to cooperate with the census takers and to provide all information requested.
