
On the basis of the results of the passengers survey, arrivals of tourists reached 406.870 in October 2017 compared to 357.194 in October 2016, recording an increase of 13,9%. October 2017 had the highest volume of tourist arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the specific month.
For the period of January – October 2017 arrivals of tourists totaled 3.408.473 compared to 2.974.412 in the corresponding period of 2016, recording an increase of 14,6% and outnumbering the total arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the first ten months of the year.
Tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom increased by 0,5% in October 2017 compared to October 2016 while an increase of 7,1% was recorded for tourists from Russia. Increases were also recorded from other important tourist markets, such as Germany (73,1%), Israel (55,1%) and Sweden (35,8%). Contrary to that, a decrease of 3,1% in tourist arrivals from Switzerland was recorded.
The United Kingdom and Russia constitute the main sources of tourism for Cyprus for October 2017, with proportions of 33,1% and 21,5% respectively, while arrivals from Germany comprise 7,7%, from Israel 6,0% and from Sweden 4,7% of total arrivals.
For a percentage of 83,3% of tourists, the purpose of their trip in October 2017 was holidays, for 10,1% visit to friends and relatives and for 6,6% business.
As regards to gender and age, men comprise 44,7% of tourists and women 55,3%, whilst most of the tourists belonged to the age group of 20-44 years.
