Cyprus Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Minister, Nicos Kouyialis, addressed the European Conference for the maritime environment, “Healthy Oceans – Productive Ecosystems”, in Brussels on Monday, saying that Nicosia is promoting a regional cooperation for the protection of the Mediterranean Sea.

The Republic of Cyprus is close to reaching an agreement with Israel on the matter, which will be concrete and based on an action plan.

“We aspire to conclude similar agreements with all countries that border Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone and which are active in the field of hydrocarbons” Kouyialis said.

He concluded saying that Cyprus’ aspiration is to become a regional hub for cooperation in maritime protection matters, which will include Greece, Lebanon, Egypt, Syria and Israel.
