Cyprus amongst the proponents of the UN Programme for promoting international law – Ambassador Korneliou

The Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN Ambassador Kornelios Korneliou made a statement at the General Debate of the Sixth Committee on Agenda Item 80: United Nations Programme of Assistance in the Teaching, Study, Dissemination and Wider Appreciation of International Law.

In his remarks, Ambassador Korneliou highlighted Cyprus’ support for the Programme as “Cyprus has been amongst the proponents of the Programme since its inception and supports the view that the Programme continues to effectively contribute to the Rule of Law, through International Law training and through dissemination of legal knowledge and material, thus advancing the work of the United Nations.”

The Permanent Representative also mentioned the Hamilton Shirley Amerasinghe Memorial Fellowship on the Law of the Sea, as it “continues to contribute to the wider appreciation and application of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the sea and in this regard to the work of DOALOS.”

Ambassador Korneliou took this opportunity to thank the Secretary General the Report on the implementation of the Programme of Assistance in the Teaching, Study, Dissemination and Wider Appreciation of International Law and expressed Cyprus gratitude to the Codification Division./IBNA
