Cyprus: increase recorded in imports and exports in July 2021

The Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus has announced the final data on Cyprus’ foreign trade for July 2021 and the preliminary data for August 2021.

The main developments in Cyprus’ foreign trade for July 2021 were:

Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and third countries) were €796.4 million in July 2021 compared to €676.1 million in July 2020, an increase of 17.8%.

Exports of domestically produced goods, including ship and aircraft supplies, for July 2021 were €149.4 million compared to €129.1 million in July 2020, recording an increase of 15.7%. The value of exports of industrial products for July 2021 was €143.6 million compared to €121.3 million in July 2020, while the value of exports of agricultural products for July 2021 was €4.4 million compared to €5.5 million in July 2020.

Exports of foreign goods, including ship and aircraft supplies, for July 2021 were €181.5 million compared to €84.4 million in July 2020, an increase of 115.0%.

External trade statistics August 2021

Based on preliminary data, the main developments in Cyprus’ foreign trade for August 2021 can be summarised as follows:

Total imports of goods were €665.8 million compared to €496.9 million in August 2020, recording an increase of 34.0%. Imports from other EU Member States in August 2021 were €440.2 million and from third countries €225.5 million, compared to €333.2 million and €163.7 million respectively in August 2020. Imports in August 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (ships), totalling €90.1 million compared to €30.3 million in August 2020.

Total exports of goods in August 2021 were €283.0 million compared to €199.8 million in August 2020, an increase of 41.6%. Exports to other EU Member States in August 2021 were €52.8 million and to third countries €230.2 million, compared to €58.1 million and €141.7 million respectively in August 2020. Exports in August 2021 include the transfer of economic ownership of mobile transport equipment (ships), totalling €96.3 million compared to €44.6 million in August 2020.

Total imports of goods (from EU Member States and third countries) for the period January – August 2021 were €5,480.4 million compared to €4,821.1 million for the period January – August 2020, an increase of 13.7%. Total exports of goods (to EU Member States and third countries) for the period January – August 2021 were €1,931.9 million compared to €1,959.2 million for the period January – August 2020, a decrease of 1.4%.
