Cyprus: In progress-meeting between Anastasiades and Tatar at Spehar residency

The first informal meeting between the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and the newly emerged Turkish-Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar is in progress since 7:15 on Tuesday night.

The meeting took place at the residence of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Cyprus Elizabeth Spehar, at the United Nations-controlled area of ​​Nicosia Airport.

The President of the Republic of Cyprus arrived first, with Ersin Tatar arriving little later. The two leaders were welcomed by Elizabeth Spehar.

Anastasiades and Tatar will have a brief meeting at the beginning with the participation of Spehar, while afterwards they will attend a private meeting and, before their departure, they may brief Spehar on their private conversation. A statement by the United Nations may be issued after the meeting.

Government Spokesman Kyriakos Kousios, referring to today’s meeting, stated that the President of the Republic will convey to Mr. Tatar his strong political will to respond positively to the invitation of the UN Secretary General for the resumption of talks.

He also said that the President of the Republic will raise, among other things, the issue of the enclosed city of Famagusta and the respect of the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. /ibna
