The French company Total seems to have “locked down” the concession of plot 7 of the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus.
Information indicates that the concession of the plot was secured during the recent meeting of the Cypriot and French sides in Paris.
In the coming days, Nicosia is expected to make announcements on the issue.
Regarding the Turkish violations-provocations and the moves of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicosia has submitted to the United Nations a map with all the coordinates north and north-west of Cyprus.
This map contains a total of 177 points on the basis of the central line.
However, the Turkish provocations do not seem to negatively affect the Republic of Cyprus’s energy program.
This is the message the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, received from France.
The French side plans, according to Cypriot media, to conduct explorations on four plots in the years 2019 and 2020, while it is expected they will proceed immediately to five drillings.
In particular, as indicated, in the next few days we are expecting announcements from the French company TOTAL regarding the commencement of explorations in plots 2, 3 and 9, while movements are also expected in block 7.
It is noted that these messages are considered very important for Nicosia, as they are also a form of response to the Turkish provocations of the past few days.
During his contacts in Paris, Christodoulides met with the Deputy Director of Total for North Africa and the Middle East, Elias Kassis, to discuss the future plans of the group in the Cyprus’ EEZ./ibna
