In a written statement, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades welcomed the announcement of the UN to convene the informal 5+1 meeting on the Cyprus issue in Geneva on April 27-29.

“I welcome the announcement by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres of the convening of an informal meeting on Cyprus on 27-29 April in Geneva, with the aim of finding common ground that will lead to substantive negotiations on the settlement of the Cyprus issue,” Nicos Anastasiades notes in a written statement.

He went on to add that “I reiterate my strong determination to participate in the informal conference on Cyprus with full political will, in order to create the conditions for the resumption of talks to achieve a functional and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue for the benefit of both communities.

A solution based on the UN Summit Agreements, resolutions and decisions of the UN Security Council, on the principles and values of the European Union, which will lead to the evolution of the Republic of Cyprus and to a functioning and sustainable bi-communal, bi-zonal federation within the parameters reaffirmed at the joint meeting on November 25 in Berlin, and were reflected in the statement of the UN Secretary General that ensued.”/ibna
