Cyprus: Anastasiades holds meetings on rebooting the economy

Today at the Presidential Palace, the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades presided over a meeting with the unions and then held talks with partners of the construction industry, on the subject of the restart of the Economy.

After the meetings, Government Spokesman Kyriakos Kousios stated that “the President of the Republic presided over two meetings with social partners, in order to inform them about the current situation regarding the response to the coronavirus pandemic, but also to listen to their views regarding the completion of the strategy the Government is preparing for the gradual lifting of restrictive measures and the restart of the economy.

Both the representatives of the employers’ and trade union organizations that participated in the first meeting, as well as the partners of the construction industry who participated in the second one expressed their satisfaction with the measures taken by the Government so far and expressed their positions regarding the plan for the gradual lifting of restrictions and the reopening of business sectors.

During the meetings, the President of the Republic stressed that the strategy for gradually lifting the restrictive measures and restarting the economy would depend entirely on the epidemiological data, the recommendations of the scientific team, the systematic monitoring through sampling, and the ability to adopt and maintain security measures.

The strategy in question is being worked out by the relevant Inter-Ministerial Committee and is expected to be presented to the Council of Ministers on 29 April”. /ibna
