Cyprus: Anastasiades heads to Brussels

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades will be travelling to Brussels on Wednesday, 19 February, where he will take part in the works of the Extroardinary European Council, to be held on 20 February. The Summit will address issues related to the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework. .

During his stay in Brussels, President Anastasiades will have bilateral separate meetings with the new Presidents of the EU institutions. These are the first formal meetings the President of Cyprus will hold with the Presidents of the European institutions. In particular, President Anastasiades will have a working lunch tomorrow with European Council President Charles Michel, while in the afternoon he will meet with European Parliament President David Sassoli. On Thursday, February 20, the Cypriot President will meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

On the occasion of his visit, the President will also meet with the President of the European People’s Party Donald Tusk. As part of the Summit, Nicos Anastasiades will also have the chance to talk with Heads of State or Government. During his contacts, President Anastasiades will raise issues related to the latest developments in the Cyprus issue, including Turkey’s illegal activity within the Cypriot EEZ, as well as in the enclosed city of Famagusta. The President of the Republic will be accompanied in Brussels by Government Spokesman Kyriakos Kousios. /ibna
