The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Nicos Kouyialis, met yesterday with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Director-General, José Graziano da Silva, who paid an official visit to Cyprus.
At the meeting, the two men discussed the issues of food safety and fighting hunger, while they agreed that the Republic of Cyprus and the FAO will cooperate in the fields of fish farming, water management and tackling the effects of climate change.
During his visit to Cyprus, the FAO General Manager was guided through marine aquaculture facilities in Lemesos, at the premises of the Agricultural Research Institute (ARI), which was established in cooperation with the UN Special Development Fund and the Food and Agriculture Organization. He also visited the Experimental Farm of the ARI. The FAO Director-General was briefed on new innovative methods of cultivation and on the pioneering work of the ARI on genetic improvement of sheep and goats./IBNA
