Cypriot Minister of Defense Savvas Angelides met today with his German counterpart Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, in the presence of delegations from the two Ministries.
During the meeting the two Ministers reflected upon the cooperation between the two countries, whereas views were exchanged on ways to further enhance their collaboration both at bilateral and at European level.
In particular, the Cyprus-Germany cooperation was discussed within the framework of the Joint Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) programs, in which the two countries participate, as they are particularly involved in the “Network of Logistic Hubs in Europe and Support to Operations” and “Military Mobility” programs.
Savvas Angelides briefed his German counterpart on Turkey’s ongoing illegal provocations both within the EEZ and on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus. He explained that these actions create instability in the Eastern Mediterranean and raise yet more obstacles to the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Republic to resolve the Cyprus issue.
Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer expressed her country’s full solidarity with Cyprus, noting the European Union’s unanimous decision to sanction Turkey. She also highlighted Cyprus’ strategic position and the role the country can play in implementing the EU’s Global Strategy for Security and Stability in the region. /ibna
