Assistant state prosecutors Papandreou and Eleftherianou have prosecuted seven persons as felonies for kickbacks on the procurement of vehicles from the German company Daimler, including government officials and Greeks and Germans company officials, but also a representative of the company in Greece.
During the course of the investigation, held at the order of Raikou, revealed that in preparation for the signing and execution of the contract, which began when Defence Minister was Akis Tsochatzopoulos and continued under minister Yannos Papantoniou, illegal payments allegedly took place, totaling at least two million euro, from 2001 onwards, to government officials.
These payments appear to have been made by managers of the German company through Greek intermediaries, so that, according to first indications, the officials to promote the relevant contracts at the top of the hierarchy. According to information, special financial tricks were allegedly used for these payments, such as offshore company.
The offenses the defendants are charged with are corruption, bribery and money laundering.
