Ex vice president of the Greek parliament and ex MP of SYRIZA Alexis Mitropoulos, lawyer and professor of Labour Law in Athens University, faces criminal charges for tax evasion and money laundering. The investigation for these crimes was the main reason Mitropoulos was not accepted as a candidate in the recent elections on the lists of SYRIZA.
According to prosecutor Eleni Touloupaki, Mitropoulos hid from his tax return fees he had taken 16 years ago as a lawyer, thus evading taxes of 427.000 euros (the amount today has reached 940.000 euros). Mr Mitropoulos denies the charges, but two other lawyers, working with him in the same case, accuse him that he not only took the fee without receipt, but he also denied to give them their share. According to the investigation the fee was not declared and taxed.
