Corruption is hindering Kosovo’s development, says vice US ambassador

Vice US ambassador to Kosovo, Jennifer Bachus, declared today that there cannot be economic development without the development of justice.

According to her, the issue of corruption in Kosovo is preventing economic development, because it affects all levels of society.

Bachus made these declarations in front of the community of donors in the High Level Forum organized by PM Isa Mustafa.

Bachus also said that the USA have supported and will strong support the development of Kosovo in all domains.

“The issue of corruption and perception of corruption is preventing the development of Kosovo, because it affects all levels of society and remains one of the main obstacles. United States and international community will help Kosovo because we have helped in improving security of the borders and to promote transparency in the process of public tenders in Kosovo”, she said.

Kosovo’s PM, Isa Mustafa said that the strengthening of the rule of law and fight of organized crime are the main instruments to attract foreign investments. Similar messages were also issued by international representatives in Kosovo.

Mustafa said that the government is interested on increasing GDP, to hold economic reforms, change VAT rates and fight informal economy.

He also said that the government is interested for the mine of Trepce to be exploited and create new jobs. /ibna/
