A judge and a lawyer have been arrested by Albanian police under the charge of corruption.
Their arrest has been made by the Court of Lezha, IBNA reports quoting official sources from State Police. They are accused of receiving an amount of 200 thousand ALL (1500 Euros) from a citizen in order to issue a ruling in his favor. The money has been seized during the arrest.
Police said that the judge in question is Parashqevi Ademi, 55 years of age (photo during the arrest) and she was arrested for the criminal offense of “Passive corruption of judges, prosecutors and other justice officials”.
Meanwhile, lawyer Gjovalin Ndokaj, 49 years of age, was arrested as accomplice for “Passive corruption of judges, prosecutors and other justice officials”.
This is the second case within a few days that police arrest judges for corruption.
In Saranda, a judge remanded into custody for a period of 30 days his colleague who was accused of receiving 8 million ALL (57 thousand Euros) for a corruption affair.
These events come at a time when the reform in the Albanian justice system is taking place amid polemics and obstacles. Some polls rank the Albania justice, especially the Albanian judicial system, as the most corrupted one. It’s been a while that the international community has considered the reformation of the justice system and the growth of public trust as a requisite for the integration of the country. /ibna/
