Construction industry in Greece steadily rising

The field of construction work experienced a flare up during the twelve-month period from June 2018 to May 2019, as a 7.9% increase was recorded in the number of building permits, of 10.7% in surface area and of 12.1% in volume.

According to ELSTAT, in May the total construction activity (private – public) amounted to 1,453 building permits, which translate to 268.9 thousand square meters of surface area and 1.159.9 thousand square kilometers of volume. That means the construction industry achieved a 7.4% increase in the number of building permits, a 5.7% decrease in surface area and a 2.1% surge in volume, compared to the figures of the same month in 2018.

Private building permits issued amounted to 1,442, that is 265.1 thousand square meters of surface area and 1.147.3 thousand square kilometers of volume, recording a rise of 7.3% in the number of building permits, a 3.9% dip in surface area and a boost by 5.8% in volume compared to the figures from the same month in 2018.

The total building permits issued in May totaled 11, corresponding to 3.8 thousand square meters of surface area and 12.6 thousand square kilometers of volume. The Public Building Activity’s share in the total building volume for May 2019 was at 1.1%.

During the last twelve months, from June 2018 to May 2019, the total construction activity (private-public) amounted to 15,334 building permits, which translate to 3,365.1 thousand square meters of surface and 14.890.2 thousand square kilometers of volume. Compared to the corresponding period of June 2017 – May 2018, an increment of 7.9% was reached in the number of building permits, of 10.7% in surface area and of 12.1% in volume./ibna
