UNHCR office in Skopje has warned that in the two coming days, over 25 thousand refugees are expected to enter FYR Macedonia from Middle East.

“Over 30 thousand refugees who are currently stuck in the Greek islands, are expected to swarm Macedonia. Authorities of this country are not prepared for such number”, UNHCR said.

This organization has demanded more engagement from the European Union, in order to help Skopje cope with the refugee crisis.

According to the Ministry of Interior, 7 thousand Syrian refugees arrived yesterday in the country and this is a record figure. Concerns are growing about bigger numbers of refugees in the days to come.

Refugees arrive in the southern border of FYROM and are temporarily accommodated in the refugee center of Gevgeli. Then, they continue their journey with trains, buses and taxis toward the north border with Serbia. A large number of activists from humanitarian organizations, continue to distribute food and water for the refugees. /ibna/
