Coast Guard denies the apprehension of individual for being affiliated with ISIS

Police Authorities were alarmed after it was discovered that in the mobile phone of a Syrian immigrant, arrested in Kalymnos, were found photos and videos with the flags of the Islamic State and weapons jihadist militants.

On-site hurried a team of the Hellenic Secret Service (EYP), accompanied by Arabic-speaking language translators in order to scrutinize the person arrested.

The Syrian refugee was arrested on Tuesday morning during an operation of the Coast Guard.

At present there is no further information, while there are reports that say he is a trafficker and not a refugee bound for Syros.

Information indicates that although in his phone he had videos and images of the Islamic State, this does not mean that is in league with the jihadis, however, the Greek authorities try to control the movements and calls he made lately, attempting to identify how or who he contacted.

There is no person arrested by the Coast Guard of Kalymnos in relation to Islamist militants of ISIS, according to senior sources from the headquarters of the Coast Guard.

According to an announcement of the Coast Guard, two foreign traffickers were found and arrested on Tuesday morning in a boat sailing in the sea area of ​​Kalymnos, where earlier a sufficient number of foreign refugees had been offloaded.

These individuals are being detained at Kalymnos’ Port Authority.
