Biden to visit Turkey
Turkey and the US seems to be coming closer and closer together on the issues that concern them in the Middle East.
On Tuesday evening Barak Obama had a telephone conversation for about half an hour with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The two leaders agreed on the issue of combating terrorism. The US president expressed his condolences for the ISIS terrorist attack in Istanbul. The two leaders agreed on the fighting of both ISIS and the PKK, according to the statement of the Turkish presidency.
Among the issues the two men discussed is the issue of Syria and the country’s future.
The US Vice President Joe Biden will visit Turkey next Saturday (23/01) and will have meetings with Erdoğan and Ahmet Davutoğlu. Officially, they will discuss the US-Turkey, relations, the Kurdish issue and the fight against terrorism. However, the agenda is also expected to include the imminent normalisation of Turkey-Israel relations, as well as the possible Egypt-Turkey rapprochement. Finally, the two sides are also expected to discuss the future of Moscow-Ankara relations.
