With the new changes on the law on cabs, the city of Skopje obliges cabs in the capital to have knowledge in the English language and to prove this through a certificate. This week, the city of Skopje has allocated funds for foreign languages schools, which will offer courses in the English language for licensed cab drivers. Drivers must have basic knowledge in English in order to be issued with the certificate of the school..
Mayor of the city, Koce Trajanovski says that this measure is part of the program for the improvement of efficiency and quality of cabs in the capital. Around 10 thousand Euros will be initially allocated for schools offering English course.
But, a part of cab drivers are against this decision, by considering it as outrageous. “We were surprised by these measures. The majority of cab drivers have a certain age and they cannot learn a language at this age. This is unacceptable and in case these measures are applied, we’re ready to hold a massive strike”, says Arsim. K, a cab driver. Cab Association of Skopje has also reacted against this decision of the city of Skopje. /ibna/
