Touching was the response of the citizens of Athens to the call to donate relief items, clothes and medicines for the refugees.
From 11 am Sunday and until 6:00 pm, crowds converged on Syntagma Square, holding plastic bags and boxes, with offers for the refugees and immigrants who have been stranded in Greece.
Athenians from every corner of the Attica basin were arrivning at the square with bags from supermarkets containing products that were purchased for people they do not know, in an impressive and moving show of solidarity.
There were moving scenes with many eagerly elderly asking were they could give milk and diapers that had bought for the children refugees.
Many heads were turned by the effort of the volunteers who took part, collecting and classifying the products, which since early in the morning had started to form big piles in the upper right corner of the Square.
Shortly after six began the collection of products and volunteers engaged in the difficult task of transporting them, forming long human chains, carrying the boxes and hand bags from hand to hand.
The donations will be transferred to places where refugees and immigrants are concentrated, in Athens and in the rest of the country.
It is worth noting that the entire project is based on the will and support of the volunteers.
