Church of Greece: “Yoga” has no place in the lives of Christians

During the meeting of the Permanent Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, it was decided to call on constituents to avoid yoga as it is incompatible with the Orthodox Christian Faith.

The decision of the Permanent Holy Synod states in particular: “On the occasion of various institutions and mass media recommending the “Yoga technique” as a stress-relief method during the Covid-19 crisis, taking into consideration that 16 June 2015 Press Release of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, on “the technique of Yoga” and in the context of respect for religious freedom, which in our country is constitutionally guaranteed and respected, but also Its pastoral responsibility to avoid the cultivation of a comparative religious climate, unanimously decided to remind to the Christian world that “Yoga” constitutes a fundamental chapter of the religion of Hinduism, has a variety of schools, disciplines, applications and trends and is not a “kind of exercise”.

Therefore, It points out once again that “Yoga” is completely incompatible with our Orthodox Christian Faith and has no place in the lives of Christians”. /ibna
