Chief prosecutors of Bulgaria, Greece sign co-operation agreement

Bulgarian Prosecutor-General Sotir Tsatsarov and Efterpi Koutzamani, Prosecutor General at the Supreme Court of Greece, signed a memorandum of understanding on November 23 on matters including extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, the Bulgarian Prosecutor’s Office said.

The document, signed in Sofia, provides for co-operation in connection with the execution of requests for extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, including consultations within the existing legislation on extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters applicable between the two countries, the Prosecutor’s Office said.

The memorandum stipulates that the prosecution offices of Bulgaria and Greece will exchange information on the legal systems and laws of both countries, lawmaking activities and measures in the field of law enforcement.

The main emphasis in the talks between Tsatsarov and Koutzamani were fighting terrorism and issues related to the migration flow, the Prosecutor’s Office said.

Koutzamani and her deputy, George Pantelis, are on a two-day official visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of Tsatsarov. The agenda of the delegation included a meeting with the President of the Bulgarian Supreme Court of Cassation, Lozan Panov, and with prosecutors, the statement said.
