The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Mr Giorgos Lillikas, had a meeting today with the Ambassador of Iran to Cyprus, Dr Reza Zabib.
During the meeting, Mr Lillikas made reference to the very good relations Cyprus maintains with Iran and other countries of the wider region, noting the pivotal role Cyprus could play as bridge between the European Union, the Middle East and Asia. He underlined that a possible solution of the Cyprus problem would contribute further to the reinforcement of security and cooperation between the countries of the region. Moreover, Mr Lillikas thanked Iran for its principled stance vis-à-vis the Cyprus problem.
For his part, the Ambassador of Iran reaffirmed his country’s firm position regarding the Cyprus problem, noting that a reunified Cyprus would act as a factor of security and stability for the entire region.
Furthermore, the two interlocutors exchanged views on the trade relations between their two countries as well as prospects for their strengthening. Lastly, they both expressed their will for the further reinforcement of parliamentary relations between Cyprus and Iran.
