The chairman of the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) officially visits Greece on Wednesday. This is the first visit of a Knesset president to Greece.
Yuli-Yoel Edelstein will remain in Greece from 13 to 15 July, at the invitation of the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikos Voutsis.
According to the announcement of the Israeli Embassy, during his stay, Mr. Edelstein will meet with Mr. Voutsis and will deliver a speech at a joint session of the members of the Standing Committee on Defense and Foreign Affairs and the Greece-Israel Friendship Committee of the Greek Parliament.
The chairman of the Knesset will be officially received by the President of the Greek Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos and the prime minister, Alexis Tsipras.
The chairman of the Knesset was born in 1958 in Ukraine. He is a former «refusnik», who immigrated to Israel in 1987. He was first elected to the Knesset in 1996 and has always been re-elected MP since.
He has previously served as Immigration Minister and Minister of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs.
Mr. Edelstein belongs to the Likud party. He is chairman of the Knesset since February 2013. He speaks Hebrew, English, and Russian.
