An example of Turkey’s changing attitude towards the refugee issue in relation to Greece is the statement of the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Ismail Catakli, who called on Greece to fulfill its obligations to deal with illegal immigration!
At a conference organized by the ICMPD in Austria on the refugee problem, in his statements he called on Greece “to address the issue realistically, to cooperate and fulfill its obligations”. He argued that Turkey is keeping its promises to the EU.
Catakli had earlier met with Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Giorgos Koumoutsakos. The Turkish minister noted that he told his Greek counterpart that “Turkey feels that it is shouldering the burden of refugees on its own and does not receive the necessary support”./ibna
