Bulgarian Prime Minister Boiko Borissov and Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the State of Qatar Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani signed a bilateral intergovernmental agreement on co-operation in combating crime, the Bulgarian government media office said on May 17.
This is the first agreement in the field of security in the context of diplomatic relations between the two countries, for which Borissov and Deputy Prime Minister Rumiana Bachvarova laid the groundwork for co-operation in this area, the media statement said.
At the May 17 meeting between the two prime ministers in Doha, Qatar declared its interest in co-operating with Bulgaria in the transport, agriculture and energy sectors.
Specific details of co-operation in various sectors would be discussed on May 18 at bilateral meetings between the respective ministers of the two countries, the statement said.
The prime minister of Qatar expressed his belief that bilateral co-operation would be strengthened and noted the importance of the established intergovernmental commission, whose meetings contributed to deepening the partnership between Bulgaria and Qatar.
Borissov also expressed readiness for active co-operation. Both officials confirmed their willingness to develop economic contacts, the statement said.
A letter of intent of cooperation was signed between Qatargas and Bulgargaz in the presence of the two prime ministers and their delegations, the government media office said.
