Bulgarian President Rumen Radev spoke by telephone with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday. The two men discussed the European integration of the Western Balkan countries, the bilateral energy partnership and co-operation in dealing with the effects of the pandemic.
Their common position was that the EU enlargement policy with the countries of the Western Balkans is a real investment in the stability of the region. Therefore, according to Radev, unwavering support is needed to implement the necessary reforms in the candidate countries in order to meet the Copenhagen criteria for EU membership. “Building a real good neighborly relationship is the safest and fastest way to achieve full integration into the European Union,” said President Radev.
Increasing energy connectivity and achieving real diversification in the region, as well as speeding up the process of building the interconnection between Bulgaria and Greece, were also on the agenda./ibna
