Bulgaria: Iva Miteva-Rupcheva appointed new Parliamentary Speaker

The national assembly elected Iva Miteva-Rupcheva from the “There is such a people” coalition as President of the 45th National Assembly.

Her candidacy was approved by 163 MPs. The coalition “There is such a people”, the coalition “Stand Up! Mafia Out”, the Socialist Party (BSP), the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and” Democratic Bulgaria”, while GERB abstained.

“Our work focuses on the voters’ expectations for clear and predictable stable legislation. Transparency and accountability must be the basic principles of this National Assembly. Let us make efforts for dialogue between us”, Miteva said.

Iva Miteva studied Law, having several postgraduate degrees, while working for a long time in the parliamentary administration and is a part-time lecturer at the New Bulgarian University.

GERB/​​UDF candidate Tsveta Karayancheva, who was the Speaker of the previous Parliament, received only 75 votes from her party members, while 162 of the other MEPs in the House voted against her./ibna
