Bulgaria: GERB suffers 309,621 vote loss, BSP 475,366 compared to 2017 elections

In the previous parliamentary elections of 2017, GERB had once again emerged victorious, winning 1,147,292 votes or 33.54%. In the April 4 elections, GERB garnered 837,671 votes, marking a 309,621 vote-loss.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) for Bulgaria came in second in 2017, supported by 955,490 people or 27.93%. In Sunday’s election, the BSP received 480,124 votes, recording losses of almost 50% or 475,366 votes compared to 2017.

In 2017, 315,976 voters voted for the minority MRF, which corresponds to 9.24%, coming in third. In the last elections, the MRF received 335,701 votes, gaining an additional 19,725 votes, but falling to fourth place in the election race.

The coalition “United Patriots – NFSB, ATAKA and VMRO” received 318,513 votes (9.31%) in 2017 , while the VOLIA formation 145,637 votes (4.26%). In last Sunday’s election, the NFSB and the VOLIA garnered 75,921 votes or 2.37%, as they ran together, while the ATAKA formation gained 15,660 votes or 0.49% and the VMRO 116,430 votes or 3.64%.

In 2017, total turnout was 54.07% or 3,682,151 of those registered to vote.

In 2014, the result of the elections for the 42nd National Assembly was: GERB, 1,072,491 votes (32.67%); BSP Left Bulgaria, 505,527 votes (15.40%); MRF, 487,134 votes (14.84%); “Reform Bloc – BZNS, DBG, DSB, NPSD, UDF” – 291,806 votes (8.89%); “Patriotic Front – NFSB and VMRO” 239,101 votes (7.28%); ATAKA – 148,262 votes (4.52%) and ABC – 136,223 votes (4.15%).

Compared to the 2014 elections, in 2021 GERB lost 234,820 votes, BSP 25,403 and the MRF 151,433 votes.
