Bulgaria's exports in January - August 2018 1.5% down - statistics institute

In January - August 2018 the total value of all the goods exported from Bulgaria amounted to 35 078.4 million leva, which was 1.5 per cent less than the same period of 2017, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on October 10, reporting preliminary data.

In August 2018, the total exports of goods from Bulgaria added up to 4 613 million leva and grew by 0.6 per cent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, the NSI said.

The total value of all the goods imported into Bulgaria in January - August 2018 amounted to 40 993.4 million leva (at CIF prices), or 7.2 per cent more than the same period of 2017.

In August 2018 the total imports of goods decreased by 0.1 per cent compared to the same month of the previous year and added up to 4 973.0 million leva.

The total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative in the period January - August 2018 and amounted to 5 915.0 million leva.

At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) in the period January - August 2018 the total foreign trade balance was also negative and added up to 3 029.2 million leva.

In August 2018 the total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative and added up to 360 million leva. The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices was also negative and amounted to 46.3 million leva.

In the period January - August 2018 the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 22.9 per cent in comparison with the same period of 2017 and added up to 10 167.6 million leva

The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Turkey, China, Serbia, the United States, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and the Russian Federation which accounted for 52.7 per cent of the exports to non EU countries. In August 2018, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries decreased by 21.0 per cent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 1 312.6 million leva.

Imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries in the period January - August 2018 increased by 4.6 per cent in comparison with the same period of 2017 and added up to 14 622.5 million leva (at CIF prices). The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from the Russian Federation, Turkey, China and Serbia. In August 2018 the imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries increased by 10.9 per cent compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to 2 000.6 million leva.

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries in the period January - August 2018 was negative and added up to 4 454.9 million leva. The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) was also negative and amounted to 3 219.8 million leva. In August 2018 the foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries was negative and amounted to 688 million leva, the NSI said.... / IBNA
