Bulgaria: Borissov calls for the resignation of three Ministers

GERB President and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has called for the resignation of Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov, Interior Minister Mladen Marinov and Economy Minister Emil Karanikolov.

The decision came after a meeting between GERB President and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the party’s regional coordinators.

During the meeting, the party coordinators requested that Borissov remove the three ministers on the grounds that GERB and the ministers in question had a direct connection to the MRF and Delyan Peevski. According to the regional coordinators, this hurts GERB’s image due to speculation regarding its relationship with the MRF.

Less than ten minutes after the announcement by the GERB press office, the government press service announced the three ministers had stated they were ready to resign immediately.

Goranov, Marinov and Karanikolov will submit their resignations tomorrow.

GERB said the party highly appreciates Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov’s contribution to Bulgaria’s entry into the Eurozone waiting room and its financial stability policy. During the meeting, Minister of the Interior Mladen Marinov was also praised, under whose leadership the Ministry of Interior achieved good results in the fight against smuggling, domestic crime and drug trafficking. The contribution of the Minister of Economy Emil Karanikolov to the increase of foreign investments in Bulgaria was also positively evaluated./ibna
