Bulgaria: Ambassador Angelov issues note verbale over the burning of the Bulgarian flag in a village of North Macedonia

The Ambassador of Bulgaria to North Macedonia Angel Angelov sent a note verbale to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, after the information that carnivalgoers during the celebration of the feast of St. Basil (with the Julian calendar) burned a Bulgarian flag at the village of Vevchani.

The issue was raised by Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva on her Facebook account.

On the occasion of the media coverage of the burnt Bulgarian flag in the village of Vevchani in the Republic of North Macedonia, I instructed the Bulgarian Ambassador to Skopje Angel Angelov to express to the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia our strong indignation for this. Ambassador Angelov has already issued a strong note verbale to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia.

According to media reports in North Macedonia, the participants in the carnival events for St. Basil where the Bulgarian flag was burned were expelled by the authorities, while it is clarified that in these events participants use satire to refer to various current political issues./ibna
