Three senior EU officials, Federica Mogherini, Cecilia Malmstrom and Johannes Hahn have sent a letter to the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj stating that regardless of the composition of the Kosovo’s negotiating team, dialogue with Belgrade should be led by president Hashim Thaci.
“We don’t agree with your statement that dialogue has been blocked. On the contrary, this dialogue led to a significant progress made by the two presidents”, the letter states.
The second letter is seen as support for Thaci in order for him to continue his efforts and reach an agreement with president Vucic. Several days ago, the three senior officials asked PM Haradinaj to scrap duties imposed on Serbia and Bosnia, but this was refused by Kosovo’s PM.
At the end of the government meeting, PM Haradinaj said that Mogherini is the one to be blamed for the failure of the dialogue. He reiterated that taxes on Serb goods shall not be lifted “unless Serbia recognizes Kosovo”. /ibna/
