The successful implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement will be decisive for the future of Kosovo toward the next step of becoming an EU candidate member. For a successful implementation of SAA, Kosovo must have strong institutions and a functional parliament.

In a conference for public consultations on the draft of the National Program for the Implementation of SAA, the participants demanded for institutions to join forces and implement SAA.

EU Special Representative to Kosovo, Samuel Zbogar said that SAA is the first agreement between Kosovo and EU or the most comprehensive agreement that Kosovo has ever signed for its European future.

He said that SAA helps Kosovo to strengthen democracy and the rule of law and contributes for political stability. Meanwhile, he added that there must be strong institutions and a functional parliament for the implementation of SAA.

“Strong institutions are necessary for the implementation of agreements. Kosovo needs functional institutions which offer quality. Judiciary institutions need to strengthen and this remains the main challenges. In this context, fight against corruption and organized crime must be strengthened.

For Mr. Zbogar, SAA is important news for the citizens of Kosovo, but added: “There must be a functional parliament where all MPs work in a safe way and we want all MPs to engage in dialogue with the power of arguments in order to offer proposals for economic developments and the progress of the country. We need MPs with ideas on how to improve the life of the citizens of Kosovo”, Zbogar said. /ibna/
