Austria recognises that the Greek borders are the external borders of Europe, clarified the Austrian Defence Minister Hans Peter Doskozil, in statements after the talks in Athens with his Greek counterpart Panos Kammenos, in the wake of the diplomatic Athens – Vienna episode.
In view of the forthcoming meeting of EU Defense ministers on April 18 and 19 in Luxembourg, the two countries’ ministers highlighted the need for the adoption and implementation of a common European policy to tackle the refugee crisis, ensuring the EU’s external borders, equal sharing of the number of immigrant refugees in EU countries, the signing and implementation of agreements between the European Commission and third countries for migrants returns and strengthening FRONTEX operational level to respond more quickly to its mission.
In the afternoon the Austrian Defence Minister visited the reception centers in Schisto, accompanied by Deputy Defense Minister Dimitris Vitsas.
