A bomb attack against a shuttle bus carrying police staff exploded in the metropolitan municipality of Mersin, in Northeast Turkey.
The explosion took place at 18:00 p.m. local time, in the city centre. Eighteen policemen were wounded.
Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdağ called it a “terrorist attack”. Until this moment no organisation has claimed responsibility. The Turkish press, however, noted that often in the past, police buses have been targeted and hit by PKK.
Shortly after the blast, Turkish authorities banned news reports related to the attack, unless there were official announcements.
Mayor Βurhanettin Kocamz told the press that the blast occurred on the same street where the prefect’s office is situated…/IBNA
