The Chairman and member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić and Šefik Džaferović, talked today in Bled with the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, about bilateral relations between the two countries and overall political relations in the Western Balkans.
The European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina was also discussed, in the context of Slovenia’s presidency of the European Union, and preparations for the upcoming summit “European Union – Western Balkans”, which should be held in October in Ljubljana, reports the FENA agency.
Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Šefik Džaferović told FENA after the meeting that there was talk especially about the role of Slovenia when it comes to BiH’s European path.
Speaking about the overall visit to Bled and participation in the Bled Strategic Forum, Džaferović emphasized that the need to include all six countries of the Western Balkans in the European Union is now emphasized more than ever.
“It has been said very clearly, as never before, that the European Union will not be complete until all the countries of the Western Balkans become members, and it was said that no matter how much the Western Balkans need the EU, the European Union needs the countries of the Western Balkans,” he said.
He believes that BiH institutions should function as provided by the Constitution and that the best way for BiH and all other countries in the Western Balkans is to become EU members as soon as possible.
“I would say the same for NATO, although there are some countries in the Western Balkans that have a different attitude towards the Alliance. The European Union for the entire Western Balkans and BiH means the rule of law, economic prosperity and respect for human freedoms and rights, and NATO means security,” Džaferović pointed out.
As he concluded in a statement for FENA, that is exactly what all the people living in the countries of the Western Balkans need.
