The Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina requested an urgent reaction by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations to the decision of the Ministry of Economy of Kosovo on the introduction of a protective measure on imports of milk and sour cream from BiH and the introduction of similar such measures for the import of fruits and vegetables from all countries into Kosovo.
According to the statistical data on imports and exports between BiH and Kosovo, it is evident that BiH has no registered export of fresh fruits and vegetables to the other Balkan country, but significant exports of milk and sour cream only, to the Kosovo market.
Since it is a procedure that will largely jeopardize the dairy exports of BiH, it is necessary to take all measures as soon as possible in order to prevent the imposition of a 17% duty on imports of milk and dairy products from BiH to Kosovo.
“We recall that the dairy industry of BiH started recording an important step forward in exports last year and the market of Kosovo represents one of the most important markets for the export of milk and dairy products from BiH. According to data in the possession of the Chamber, the total export for tariffs mentioned in the Decision in 2017 amounted to more than 10 million BAM, and it was about 4.7 million BAM in the year of 2018. Therefore, the importance of export of BiH dairy industry to this market is clear”, the BiH Foreign Trade Chamber said in the letter to BiH Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations.
In its letter, the Chamber requested the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH that, if the decision really enters into force, to introduce reciprocal measures in accordance with products imported from Kosovo. They also suggested that the Ministry pays special attention to imports of water, mineral and carbonated alike, with additional sugar, as an example of the final product being imported from there.
The decision on the introduction of protective measures on fruits and vegetables imported from all countries in the territory Kosovo came into force on Wednesday…. / IBNA
